Welcome! Crafty Ladies is an official Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Below you'll find some background on how we evolved and what we're all about. Check out other areas using the links on the left.

There are a lot of Red Hat Chapters in the DC metro area. However, Red Hatting is so popular here that many of the Chapters decide to temporarily stop accepting new members now and then to keep their group's size workable. Linda, our Queen Bee, searched for over a year to find a Chapter in her neighborhood that was open to new members, without luck. Fortunately a great aspect of the Society is that it is easy to start your own Chapter. So Linda formed "Crafty Ladies" with her friend Claire on April 9, 2003.

Their plan was to entice other ladies who had the crafting bug, whether it be scrapbooking, stamping, knitting or crocheting, pottery, or whatever, to join. Our Chapter was a little slow getting started on that track as most of the women joined simply because they'd finally found a Chapter in the area that was open to new members. Few of them had any crafting skills!!

Since then our Chapter has evolved into a wonderful combination of ladies with many talents - a jack-of-all-trades crafter, a poet, a stained glass designer, an ex-Playboy bunny, a computer wiz, a dental hygienist, and a number of ladies willing to learn and contribute to the art of crafting!

Our Chapter originally planned to meet once every three months, but everyone was so interested in meeting other women who wanted to have fun it was decided to meet every month. Since then this has grown into meeting at least three times a month to celebrate three different events - a Game Day, a Craft Day, and Dining Out.

Besides these monthly events, the Chapter also enjoys attending the Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theater, pot luck dinners, Blair Mansion Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, pool parties, wine and cheese parties, bus trips, train rides, teas, jewelry parties, galas, Halloween parties, charity events, and, of course, Red Hat conventions and activities sponsored by other local Red Hat chapters. We sponsor some events too. Our Chapter has been so busy that we have ideas that we haven't even gotten to!!!

The Crafty Ladies average age is 65, the oldest being 80-ish and the youngest in her early 50's. We are unique in that while our group thoroughly enjoys each other's company in group situations, we also enjoy getting together individually to go shopping, to the movies, out to lunch, etc. This is the perfect way to find companionship in the fun years of our lives.
